    2026 GTNP Construction Updates

Preparing for the Next 100 Years in GTNP

On February 26, 2029, Grand Teton National Park will celebrate its centennial year.

Over the next three summers, the Park will undergo a few changes, facelifts and upgrades. To ensure your visit to Grand Teton National Park is uninterrupted, this page hosts parkwide construction updates, road closures, trail statuses and detours, and facility upgrades. With intentional planning and visitor participation, Grand Teton National Park will show the world that turning 100 never looked so good!

Grand Teton National Park Construction Updates

Nature has been reshaping this landscape for millenia. We’re just lending a hand.

The Grand Teton National Park construction schedule below shares when popular roads will be closed or expect delays. Death Canyon trailhead will be closed for the entire summer 2026 season; Moose-Wilson Road between Moose and Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve will see construction and delays; and work on the Taggart Lake Trail will require a longer, steeper re-route.

We’re on the wild’s timeline here, and dates are subject to change.

Grand Teton National Park Open Landmarks in Summer 2026

    • Colter Bay

Colter Bay is open. Colter Bay is the perfect hub for park exploration and lakeside recreation. Colter Bay Village has a visitor center, ranger programs, restaurants, watercraft rentals and more! For easiest access, enter through the Moran Entrance Station. Lakeshore Trail, Hermitage Point Trail, and Heron Pond Trail are great hikes with rewarding views.

    • Outer Park Road

Highway 26/89/191 will be open. One of the most scenic drives in Wyoming, the Outer Park Road offers many overlooks and photo opportunities. Please follow posted speed limits and be alert for wildlife at all times of day and night.

    • Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Few people realize that Jackson Hole Mountain Resort provides access to some of the best hiking trails in Grand Teton National Park. In fact, the most famous through-hike in the Tetons, Teton Crest Trail, can either start or end from the top of the Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is open all season for summer operations.

    • Craig Thomas Discovery & Visitor Center

Craig Thomas Discovery & Visitor Center is a must-stop to orient new visitors entering the Park and return visitors who want a lay-of-the-land while the Park is undergoing construction. Craig Thomas Visitor's Center, near the Park's Moose entrance, will be open all season with facilities, restrooms, and backcountry permits.

    • Heron Pond-Swan Lake Loop Trail

Heron Pond and Swan Lake Loop Trail are open all season. Take an easy loop trail for access to two ponds and views of the Teton Range. This family-friendly hike is the perfect swap for the Taggart Lake Trail, which will be impacted by construction, or the busy lake access of Jenny Lake.

    • Granite Canyon

Granite Canyon will be open throughout the summer season, offering access to the Grand Teton backcountry. A backcountry permit is required for all overnight stays in the backcountry. Parking is limited at Granite Canyon trailhead.
